Position Overview: StepStone is currently seeking candidates with excellent quantitative, qualitative and interpersonal skills for Intern positions in StepStone’s Beijing office. The Intern’s primary role is to support sector focused research on various areas of the private equity industry such as growth, buyout, and venture capital in Asia. In addition, the Intern will work in a team environment with other research team members to manage information flow; update our proprietary database; build supporting valuation models and charts; analyze fund documents, financial statements and investment returns. The Intern will have the opportunity to articulate findings to the research team. The ideal candidate will be in pursuit of, or have already obtained, a bachelor’s degree with some level of familiarity with finance or other relevant experience. He/she will adhere to the highest ethical standards, as well as demonstrate maturity, reliability, and attentiveness to detail. Full proficiency in English (both written and oral) is a strict requirement. Essential job functions: - Perform market research using publicly available information and proprietary databases to identify, quantify and analyze macroeconomic trends across a variety of industry sectors; - Interpret financial analyses prepared by target fund managers, including investment track records and financial statement analysis; prepare valuation analyses on private companies using multiples from comparable public companies and precedent transactions; - Support research staff on managing and tracking the flow of investment opportunities; - Help construct an argument regarding a decision to invest or not invest, and communicate that argument efficiently in written materials; - Creatively analyze data and test hypotheses regarding attractiveness of specific sectors and investment opportunities, and form an independent opinion about the attractiveness of a sector or investment opportunity to clearly articulate in extensive written memoranda; - Analyze and monitor the performance of the firm's existing fund managers and underlying portfolio companies; opportunity to participate in meetings with assigned managers Other requirements include: - Bachelor’s degree (or in pursuit of one) at a leading university; top quartile academic background; - Strong communication skills, fluent in English and proficient in Mandarin Chinese; some degree of familiarity with China through prior workand/or study is preferred; - Demonstrable analytical capabilities, including strong quantitative and qualitative skills; evidence of high intellectual curiosity is essential; - High proficiency in Word, Power Point and Excel; - Team player, committed to work, and strong willingness to learn; - Flexible schedule allowed, but minimum of 3 days per week About StepStone: StepStone is a global private markets specialist overseeing more than US$296 billion of private capital allocations, including over US$67 billion of assets under management.
